During Shodo workshop you will get an intimate exploration of Japanese calligraphy and find balance within yourself through meditative calligraphy process. The workshop begins with a brief lecture on the history of Japanese calligraphy and Japanese writing system, followed by the basics: proper use of the brush and other tools, posture and manners, unique characteristics of Japanese gasen-shi paper and sumi inks. Participants will be practicing and making their own calligraphy of Enso or Kanji.
Calligraphy is rightfully considered as the queen of Japanese art. The main value of the art of calligraphy is not to learn how to write beautifully. In the deepest (spiritual) sense, the very process of engaging in calligraphy is the goal. Your condition is important - the unity of consciousness and body in the movement of the brush on paper. This meditation will help you to be at the center, at the point of your peace and wisdom. In this process, all signs of stress disappear without a trace. The skills obtained in this way can be successfully used in any daily activity, where it is important to maintain attentiveness and calm, precise coordination of actions.
